Construction and Finishing

I use tone bar bracing.  The neck is joined to the body using a dove-tail joint.  I hand stain and spray on the clear laquer.  This method is more time consuming than spraying on the stain, but it gives the mandolin a more "vintage" look.  Eight coats of laquer are used which gives a high gloss, but is not enough to adversely affect the sound.  The lower fretboard is "scouped" to prevent pick click.  I also add a device between the bridge and tailpiece to dampen the overtones.  The action is set low so it plays easily.
